Bloodwork is an important diagnostic tool that reveals health information about patients.
As with human medicine, getting and analyzing blood samples are routine parts of veterinary care for your furry family members. In fact, our registered veterinary technicians and assistants perform bloodwork almost everyday here at AMC. Samples of your pet’s blood can help us screen them for any underlying diseases and give us insight about their wellbeing that we cannot have from other types of tests. If you have any further questions about bloodwork not addressed on this page, please do not hesitate to call us at 902-564-8356.
Not at all. We don’t even administer anesthesia when drawing your pet’s blood. For them, it will feel similar to getting a regular injection or vaccine shot. Very little to no discomfort will be felt by your furry friend.
As we mentioned earlier, blood tests allow us to get vital info about your pet’s health and get ahead of any underlying health problems. Even if your pet is perfectly healthy, they provide a baseline for us to compare against future test results, so that we can have a reference for what is “normal” for your pet. Blood tests are also routine steps taken before certain surgeries and procedures, or before starting your pet on any new medications, so we can see if they are good candidates for treatment.
Here at AMC, we conduct most of our bloodwork in-house and can get same-day results. We also work closely with an outside lab for more complicated exams – the results of which are received after 2 to 3 business days.
